Statistical mechanics approach to collisionless relaxation

DARKexp describes the distribution of scaled particle energy, ε, in self-gravitating, collisionless systems. It has the simple form, N(ε) ∼ exp(φ0 ε) 1 as derived from statistical mechanical principles in Paper I. The corresponding density profiles computed numerically in Paper II do not have an analytical form. We here provide the computed density profiles.

N(E) from N-body simulation (blue curve) and the DARKexp fit with φ0 = 4.6 (dashed magenta curve). The light blue area represents the 1σ scatter. The light grey area indicates the gravitational potential at the virial sphere. From Paper III.
